Im ALS-Podcast #22 werden die Möglichkeiten der Atemhilfen thematisiert, wenn die ALS zu einer Schwäche der Atem- und Hustenmuskulatur führt. Dabei werden die Ursache der Atemschwäche sowie deren vielfältigen Symptome und Anzeichen besprochen. Neben der Problemdarstellung kommen die unterschiedlichen Behandlungsoptionen zur Sprache. Ansgar Schütz beschreibt seine Erfahrungen als Atmungstherapeut, der mehr als 20 Jahre in der häuslichen Behandlung von Menschen mit ALS tätig ist. Sein Spezialgebiet liegt in der diagnostischen Einschätzung von Atem- und Hustenschwäche, der Versorgung mit Husten- und Atemhilfen sowie der psychosozialen Dimension der Beatmungsversorgung. Er ist Dozent und Ausbilder für Atmungstherapeuten sowie Mitautor der Behandlungsleitlinie für nichtinvasive und invasive Beatmung als Therapie der chronischen respiratorischen Insuffizienz (herausgegeben durch die Deutsche interdisziplinäre Gesellschaft für außerklinische Beatmung – DIGAB).

ALS Podcast #22 discusses the possibilities of ventilation support when ALS leads to weakness of the breathing and coughing muscles. The cause of respiratory weakness as well as its many symptoms and signs are discussed. In addition to presenting the problem, the various treatment options are discussed.
